Dancing the "Sword Dance"

          Some dances include: The Highland Fling, The Sword Dance, Sean Truibhas, Strathspey and Highland Reel, Sailor's Hornpipe, Irish Jig, Flora MacDonald, Scottish Lilt, Barracks Johnnie, and many, many more!
          Basically, this form of dance consists of repeated hopping (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 1, 2, 3....). It was originally designed for men but today only 1 in 100 dancers is male!
          The different costumes are: Highland outfit (kilt and vest/jacket), National outfit (skirt and vest), Jig outfit (dress and apron, etc.), and Hornpipe outfit (sailor outfit). There are two main kinds of dance shoes. The kind you've probably already seen (black lace-up slippers) and Jig shoes (red or green lace-up shoes w/tap heels.
